Expanded Book Search

There are a number of ways to find books written about a particular author.

  • Search@UW - Search the library holdings from all UW libraries
  • WorldCat Search a worldwide catalog of more than 40 million library holdings. Use the advanced search feature.
  • MLA database - Search this database for book chapters and essays; you can also limit MLA to search for books, relevant monographs, working papers, proceedings, and bibliographies.  
  • Literary Criticism Online - Search LCO for a number of literary reference works published by Gale, such as Nineteenth-Century Literature Criticism, Contemporary Literary Criticism, Poetry Literary Criticism, etc.
  • Google Books - Good source when looking for a specific quote or passage.


Search Tips:

Search the author's name as keyword, subject, named person, the work, or all (depending on catalog/database):

General search: Sayers AND "strong poison" AND critic* (*searches critic, critics, critical, criticism)

Keyword: "Dorothy Sayers"

Subject: Sayers, Dorothy
