Poem in Your Pocket Day - 2024: Home

Take a poem for your pocket and share the joy of poetry!

Poetry Resources

Overview

Celebrate Poem in Your Pocket Day on April 18th by selecting a poem, carrying it with you, and sharing it with a friend, family member, colleague, or stranger.

This year, we're thrilled to announce that we received a WiLS Ideas to Action grant to expand our Poem in Your Pocket Day programming beyond our walls to the Central Wisconsin region.

Join the UWSP Libraries and our community partners (list on right) for this celebration! Don’t have a poem? No problem! We've got you covered with poems available at our libraries and community partners (and digital poems on this guide).

This celebration of poetry is also a great way to explore our vast collections of poetry at the UWSP Libraries, as well as any local or college/university library.

Poem in Your Pocket Day is an official activity created by the American Academy of Poets for National Poetry Month.

Make April 18th an extra special day for someone (and for you) by sharing a poem! It’s a great way to connect, engage, and inspire.

UWSP Student Poetry Ambassadors

ASHER A. SHROEDER (L): My name is Asher! I’m a freshman at UWSP at Wausau, and I was born and raised here. I don’t have a declared major, but I love to write and study/analyze human behavior. Since I was young, I’ve been a writer, and I especially love writing poetry. I’m influenced most by e.e. cummings and Sylvia Plath. To fuel my creativity, I’m a member of MUSH and I’m taking creative writing.

ZOIE T. DINEHART (R): My name is Zoie! I'm an English Ed and English Writing, Editing, and Publishing Major with minors in Creative Writing and Linguistics. I have loved poetry since first learning about it in elementary school and I'm thrilled to be the treasurer of the Rising Voices Poetry Club. I  encourage everyone to give poetry a try – there are so many different styles and poems about just about every imaginable topic!
