We suggest the following best practices to support the appropriate use of materials within Canvas. These suggestions are not intended as legal advice; rather, they aim to assist you in aligning your use of course materials with University policies, procedures, and legal requirements.
- Whenever possible, link to legal materials that already reside online such as library resources, rather than creating and uploading copies to Canvas.
- If you can't find a link to content UWSP has access to, contact Course Reserves for assistance. Library staff will:
- license the material for use if that is an option.
- conduct a Fair Use evaluation before uploading to Canvas if no license can be obtained.
- ensure scanned/uploaded copies meet accessibility standards.
- provide attribution to original creator and copyright holders with the material.
- include Do Not Reproduce warning with the material.
- Use alternative OER content, licensed under Creative Commons.
