1) to steal and pass off (the ideas or words of another) as one's own
2) to use (another's production) without crediting the source
3) to commit literary theft
4) to present as new and original an idea or product derived from an existing source.
Turnitin.com is an online resource for educators and students concerned with developing quality writing and research skills. It prevents and detects plagiarism by comparing submitted papers to billions of pages of content located on the Internet and selected proprietary databases. The results are compiled for each paper submitted, in custom reports that are sent to participating faculty.
