How to Use Search@UW

Finding the Search Tool that Fits Your Research Needs

There are several search tools on the UWSP Library Website, plus the general Internet, that you can use to find information.  Which tool is best for your research needs?  Use this chart to assist you.

Search@UW vs. Other Tools

Search Tools:

  • Search@UWone search for books, articles and more.

  • Library Databases: locate articles and other resources from a specific subject area (e.g., history, psychology, biology).

  • Worldcat: locate books that are not available at UWSP or from another UW System library.

  • Subject & Course Guides: research help & sources customized for a particular topic or course.

  • Internet Search: for quick facts and a general introduction to a topic.

  • Google Scholar: locate academic (journal articles, books) information on a topic.
