The AAG exists to further professional investigations in geography and to encourage the application of geographic findings in education, government, and business. The AAG promotes acquaintance and discussion among its members and with scholars in related fields by stimulating research and scientific exploration, encouraging publication of scholarly studies, and by performing services to aid the advancement of its members and the field of geography.

The AGS exists to advance and promote geography in business, government, science, and education. By increasing geographic literacy, the organization purposes to affect public policy, national security, and human well-being.

The purpose of AIH is to enhance and strengthen the standing of hydrology as a science and a profession by: establishing standards and procedures to certify individuals qualified in surface-water, groundwater and water-quality hydrology; establishing and maintaining ethical standards to protect the public from irresponsible work; providing education and training in hydrology; and providing the public and government advice and guidance concerning activities related to the hydrologic profession.

The mission of the ASPRS is to advance knowledge and improve understanding of mapping sciences to promote the responsible applications of photogrammetry, remote sensing, geographic information systems (GIS), and supporting technologies.

COGO is a coalition of 13 national professional societies, trade associations, and membership organizations in the geospatial field, representing more than 170,000 individual producers and users of geospatial data and technology that share an interest in geospatial data and policy issues.

THSOA is committed to promoting education in hydrography, offshore surveying, positioning and mapping/charting by: enabling collaboration between researchers and specialists in the field of hydrology; facilitating the exchange of information and ideas; encouraging research; promoting education and training; providing a center in the Americas for bringing together relevant issues; promoting public awareness of hydrography; and providing opportunities for continuing professional development.

The LOC G&M has custody of the largest and most comprehensive cartographic collection in the world. The online Map Collections represent only a small fraction that have been converted to digital form. These images were created from maps and atlases and, in general, are restricted to items that are in public domain, meaning those which are not covered by copyright.

The NCGE works to enhance the status and quality of geography teaching and learning by: promoting and supporting geography education; enhancing the preparation of geography educators; facilitating communication and professional development among teachers; encouraging and supporting research on geography education; developing, publishing, and promoting the use of curriculum, resources, and learning materials; recognizing exceptional supporters and teachers of geography; and collaborating with other organizations that have similar goals.

The NGS was founded to increase and diffuse geographic knowledge and works to inspire people to care about the planet by funding global research and conservation projects. By partnering with scientists, photographers, journalists, and filmmakers, the NGS reaches a global community through television, magazines, children's media, travel expeditions, books, maps, consumer products, location-based entertainment and experiences, and social media platforms.

NSPS strives to establish and further common interests, objectives, and political effort that would help bind the surveying profession into a unified body in the United States.

The NACIS, founded in 1980, seeks to facilitate communication within the map information community by: improving communication, coordination and cooperation among the producers, disseminators, curators, and users of cartographic information; supporting and coordinating activities with other professional organizations and institutions involved with cartographic information; improving the use of cartographic materials through education and the promotion of graphicacy; promoting and coordinating the acquisition, preservation, and automated retrieval of all types of cartographic material; and influencing government policy on cartographic information.

The SWG exists to: provide a medium of intellectual exchange among traveled women engaged in the study of geography and its allied arts and sciences; further geographical work in all its branches; spread knowledge of the world and its people; encourage geographical research; and support financially fellowship programs that provide aid to outstanding women graduate students in geography and its allied fields.

The USGS focuses on the natural hazards that threaten lives and livelihoods; the water, energy, minerals, and other natural resources we rely on; the health of our ecosystems and environment; and the impacts of climate and land-use change. USGS scientists develop new methods and tools to supply timely, relevant, and useful information about the Earth and its processes.

The UCGIS is a non-profit organization that creates and supports communities of practice for GIScience research, education, and policy endeavors in higher education and with allied institutions and aims to be the professional hub for the academic GIS community.

The WIGA is a statewide volunteer organization dedicated to preparing a geographically literate Wisconsin population that is prepared to care for the natural environment, thrive in a global economy, and value cultural connections. The organization strives to maintain a professional learning network; improve geographic knowledge, thinking skills, and instructional strategies of pre-service and K-12 teachers; and build public support for the importance of a geographically literate population.
