Desktop Applications

ESRI ArcGIS - Proprietary software via a UW-System wide license available for download from the Software Center.

QGIS - Quatum GIS Free, user friendly open source software and is an official project of the Open Source Geospatial Foundation (OSGeo).

GRASS GIS - Geographic Resources Analysis Support System, Free, open source software and is an official project of the Open Source Geospatial Foundation (OSGeo).

DIVA GIS - Free, open source GIS software.  Also free spatial data.

Scribble Maps - Free, open source products that let users create customized maps online.  Finished maps may be embedded into webpages or exported in various formats. 

MAPme - Similar to Scribble Maps, Mapme is free and lets users create customized maps by adding points, labels, and images, then share with others via URLs or widgets.

OpenLayers -  Free software to put dynamic maps in any web page.  Can display map tiles, vector data, and markers loaded from any source.
